Product Naming

We created the service name, Waymo One, for the world’s first autonomous ride-sharing app and the name for Waymo’s autonomous trucking brand – Waymo Via.

The LiDAR hardware or devices affixed to each vehicle in the Waymo, Waymo One, and Waymo Via fleet that map, monitor, and relay information to the onboard computer are central to the experience.

Waymo created a separate company, Laser Bear, to productize and monetize the LiDAR technology. We named the products Honeycomb, which extend the Laser Bear story and are a nod to the detailed images the LiDAR produces.
